PRESS RELEASE:
WILHELM IMAGING RESEARCH'S NEW CERTIFIED IMAGE PERMANENCE TESTING PROGRAM AND SEAL STANDARDIZE RESULTS TO BETTER INFORM THE CUSTOMER
3/20/05 - (2/20/05) Responding to the worldwide need for uniform test methods to evaluate and rate the permanence of digitally printed photographs, the leading independent image stability testing laboratory, Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc. (WIR), today announced the establishment of the WIR Image Permanence Testing Program and WIR Test Certification Seals that will be awarded to qualified papers, inks, and printers.
To qualify for use of the seal, a product must have a minimum WIR Display Permanence Rating of 25 years and WIR Album/Dark Storage Rating at least equal to the display rating. Complete results and details of WIR test methods are available at www.wilhelm-research.com. Updated information, including ratings for ozone resistance, resistance to high humidity during display and storage, and water resistance will be posted on the WIR website as data becomes available.
Leading printer manufacturers Epson, HP, and Lexmark have been awarded the first certification seals for use with selected products. The seals will be shown at the Photo Marketing Association International (PMAI) Convention in Orlando, Florida, February 20-23, 2005. Other companies are expected to qualify for the WIR Certification program in the near future.
"HP strongly supports the use of the new Wilhelm Imaging Research Certification Seal as an industry standard for image permanence," said Pradeep Jotwani, senior vice president, Imaging and Printing Supplies Organization of HP. "We've been impressed with WIR's commitment to stringent, credible permanence testing, and the seal will enable customers to make meaningful comparisons between products and brands, and will ultimately eliminate confusion."
At present there are no standards available from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) or the American National Standards Institute the (ANSI) for testing the image permanence of digitally printed photographs. According to Wilhelm, "We have been an active member of ANSI and ISO standards committees for more than 25 years, and we strongly support the development of global testing standards. When such standards do become available, WIR will be among the first to apply them to product testing. But consumers need meaningful permanence data now, and the WIR testing certification program is designed to meet that need."
Photography has always been about preserving a moment, a special memory, or a loved one's face in time, and consumers care very much about how long their valued photographs will last. Consumers want objective permanence information to help them decide which products to buy. When consumers see a WIR certification seal on a package or in an advertisement, they will be reassured in knowing that the product has been tested according to WIR's rigorous test methods and that detailed permanence data for the product are available at www.wilhelm-research.com.

EPSON TO GUARANTEE LONGEVITY OF FINE ART PRINTS
UltraGiclée(tm) Print Certification Program To Give Printmakers Confidence Selling Work
3/9/05 - (3/4/05) Fine art printmakers and their customers will soon have a guarantee on the longevity of certain Epson fine art prints through Epson's new UltraGiclée(tm) print certification program. This certification will enable printmakers to sell their work and enable customers to buy these prints with confidence that the prints will last.
UltraGiclée certified fine art prints, which can only be created on selected Epson professional printers using select professional media and EPSON UltraChrome(tm) ink, will be warranted to resist noticeable fading for 80 years from the original date of purchase when the print is printed, framed, handled and displayed according to warranty conditions. If a warranted print fades, Epson will provide the ink and paper needed to make a replacement print. Current certified printers include the EPSON Stylus Pro 4000, 7600 and 9600 printers, and certified media include UltraSmooth(tm) Fine Art Paper, Textured Fine Art Paper and PremierArt(tm) Water Resistant Canvas for Epson.
"This is the first program in digital fine art printing where a printing system has not only been tested for print longevity but also guaranteed," said Greg McCoy, senior product marketing manager, Professional Supplies, Epson America Inc. "Using Epson professional printers, Epson UltraChrome Ink, archival Epson media and approved finishing sprays and techniques, fine art printmakers will have the confidence that the prints they sell will be guaranteed against fading for 80 years."
The Museum of Fine Art in Boston is using the Epson Stylus Pro 9600 and UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper to create UltraGiclée fine art reproductions in-house, enabling the museum to share its collections with as many people as possible.
"We're amazed at how easy it is to create digital fine art reproductions that meet our requirements of color accuracy and longevity," said Debra LaKind, MFA Head of Rights, Licensing and Visual Archives.
Wilhelm Imaging Research (www.wilhelm-research.com) has independently tested the printers, inks and papers used in Epson's UltraGiclée certification program for the fine art, fine art reproduction and fine art photography industries. Final prints made according to the program's specifications will be registered and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
In order to earn UltraGiclée certification, printmakers will attend a training class on proper printing and finishing techniques. Classes will be offered starting in late spring in various cities across the country. Details will be available at www.epson.com/ultragiclee beginning March 14.

PRESS RELEASE:
HP GARNERS TOP HONORS FOR DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY PRODUCTS AT PMA 2005
3/9/05 - (2/28/05) HP today announced that it received more awards than any other competitor - a total of 12 top honors for its digital photography products - in the recent Digital Imaging Marketing Association (DIMA) Camera and Printer Shoot-Out competitions.
Held in conjunction with last week's Photo Marketing Association (PMA) show in Orlando, Fla., the DIMA competitions submit a cross-section of digital photography products to tests that replicate real-world environments and push the devices to their limits. The results are then judged by panels of experts.
Four different HP digital cameras swept the awards categorized by prices ranging from $100 to $499, while HP picked up eight other awards for a variety of its innovative photo printers, specialty papers and ink.
"We're very pleased to be awarded with these honors, which validate HP's continued efforts in the area of digital photography," said Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president, Imaging and Personal Systems Group, HP. "Our goal is to deliver best-in-class products and solutions that allow any photographer - beginner or pro - to easily capture, share and print high-quality photos, affordably. These awards demonstrate that we're delivering on this."
Four HP Photosmart digital cameras were named winners in the 2005 DIMA Digital Camera Shoot-Out, in which participants submitted images taken in live-model studios at the show. Conditions are designed to replicate the environment in which digital cameras are typically used.
Within that environment, DIMA attempts to push the digital cameras to their natural limits. Entries were chosen by a panel of experts based on the overall quality of the digital print and the accuracy of color as compared to samples of fabric worn by the studio models. The following HP Photosmart digital cameras were selected as winners:
* HP Photosmart M22 Digital Camera ($100 to $199 category)
* HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera ($200 to $299 category)
* HP Photosmart R717 Digital Camera ($300 to $399 category)
* HP Photosmart 945 Digital Camera ($400 to $499 category)
In addition, several of HP's printers, photo paper and ink were named winners in various categories as part of the 2005 DIMA Digital Printer Shoot-Out.
Photo entries were produced from pre-selected target files and participants were asked to provide specific information pertaining to the printer, photo and ink used, while also reporting on production timing.
A panel of expert judges voted on the entries based on the overall quality of the digital print and the accuracy of the color as compared to the target print. The list of HP winning printers, photo paper and ink include:
* HP Designjet 130 Printer (18-inch to 35-inch wide printer category)
* HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer (9-inch to 17-inch wide printer category)
* HP Photosmart 8450 Photo Printer (8.5-inch wide or less -- $200 or more and 4 x 6-inch printer categories)
* HP Photosmart 8150 Photo Printer (8.5-inch wide or less -- $100 to $199 printer category)
* HP Photosmart 7450 Photo Printer (8.5-inch wide or less -- $99 or less printer category)
* HP Premium Plus Photo & Proofing Gloss (24-inch wide or larger media category)
* HP 97 Tri-color Inkjet Print Cartridge with Vivera Inks (less than 20-inch printer ink category)
Joshi himself was honored by the International Imaging Industry Association (I3A) as the recipient of the organization's annual Leadership Award. This prestigious award recognizes those individuals in the international imaging community who have exhibited the exemplary qualities and innovative vision of a leader.
"This award recognizes Vyomesh Joshi as a true innovator, who has helped transform the consumer and commercial digital imaging markets," said Lisa Walker, president, International Imaging Industry Association. "From his R&D roots, through his years directing HP's digital imaging strategy, he has driven initiatives leveraging HP's technology in inkjet, laser and LEP printing, while nurturing innovation in new areas for HP's digital imaging appliances, infrastructure and services."
About HP

PRESS RELEASE:
INNOVA INTRODUCES OPTI-COAT ON TWO NEW PAPERS; NEW TECHNOLOGY REDUCES DUST AND PRODUCTION WASTE
2/19/05 - (2/16/05) At the Photo Marketing Association's (PMA) annual conference, Innova will announce two new solutions that drastically reduce, and in many cases eliminate, harmful coating dust common in other digital printmaking papers. Traditionally, coating dust has been a problem for digital printers than can clog costly print heads and cause a loss of surface integrity on imaged surfaces. This destroys printed images and results in material, labor and time wastes. Other coatings also scuff, flake, fail to adhere, and destroy prints. And of course, damaged prints have no commercial value. Developed by Innova Art Ltd (UK), Innova Fine Art Papers are distributed through ANW Crestwood and can be seen at PMA in booth #5350.
Innova's New Offerings...
Opti-coat is applied on a full range of Innova's top grade photographic and watercolor papers. These offerings are noted to be best for artists, photographers and graphic artists in the fine art, professional photographic and digital printing industries. The new papers introduced at PMA are a 315 cold press alpha cellulose base material (or top grade watercolor type paper) and a 450 Smooth cotton bright white (a heavy paper perfect for photographic printing).
Innova Quote...
Wayne Connelly, Innova Art USA, says, "While many companies concentrate strictly on image quality, we also focused on post printing handling issues. The material quality of our proprietary coating allows the printmaker to handle, frame and ship the printed images with minimal risk of damage from abrasion. Scuffing is a major cause of rejected output after printing is complete."
Why These Papers are Different...
The breakthrough, Opti-coat is a more robust coating, which takes more of a beating. While other products on the market have been too fragile, Opti-coat coating produces less scuffing and dust, and won't flake (a common complaint in printing with other brands). The impact for digital printers will be more suitable prints without damage from scuffing or peeling. And, Innova's inkjet receptive coating, Opti-coat, produces excellent density and superior color gamut. Innova Ltd. will produce custom papers with this coating on a 2-ton minimum order.
New Paper Specs...
Innova is showing two new solutions at the PMA show this week in sheet sizes of 8.5x11, 11x17, 13x19 and 17x22 inches. Parent sheets are newly sized in 36x48 inches, to accommodate four 16x20 inch images with 2" borders. This offers greater productivity and cost control compared to a 35x47 inch standard. Rolls are available in 15-meter jumbo lengths (20% longer) and are offered in 17, 24, 36 and 44 inch lengths and 60 inch widths.
ANW Crestwood Quote...
Innova's ANW papers will be offered in an innovative plastic case. ANW Crestwoods' Wayne Marciano, V.P. of sales states. " Retailer and consumers alike will appreciate the many benefits of our durable clear folded case: It offers improved protection in shipping and transport; the clear design easily allows the user to monitor inventory , and when empty, the cases are excellent archive grade storage containers for digital prints.
About Innova...
Innova Art Ltd. is a producer of digital papers for fine art and photography. Based in Epping, England, with an office in New Jersey, Innova offers a range of papers in both smooth and textured surfaces in only the best 100% cotton and alpha cellulose base fiber. PRESS RELEASE:
EASTMAN KODAK BUYS CREO INC.
2/6/05 - (2/1/05) Eastman Kodak Co. is wrapping up a $3 billion shopping spree by buying Canada's Creo Inc. for $980 million. Kodak has been acquiring companies in an attempt to transform itself from the world's biggest film manufacturer into a digital heavyweight in photography, medical imaging and commercial printing.
Kodak said Monday that its acquisition of Vancouver-based Creo, the world's biggest maker of printer software, would modestly dilute its earnings this year but would not alter its full-year profit projections of $2.60 to $2.90 a share.
Acknowledging that its chemical-based businesses, led by silver-halide film, were in irreversible decline, Kodak launched an ambitious strategy in September 2003 to delve deeply into growth markets in the digital imaging realm.
Commercial printing "represents one of the three pillars of Kodak's digitally oriented growth strategy," said Kodak's chief executive, Daniel Carp. "The purchase of Creo strengthens that pillar and essentially concludes the company's acquisition plan."
Kodak will pay $980 million in cash, or $16.50 per share, for all the outstanding shares of Creo, which had about $85 million of cash on its balance sheet and no debt. The deal has been approved by each company's board of directors. Creo shares rose $1.82, or 12.7 percent, to $16.18 in Monday trading on the Nasdaq. Kodak shares rose 39 cents to $33.09 on the New York Stock Exchange. Kodak expects Creo will add at least 5 cents a share to operating earnings in 2006 and about $700 million in sales. Creo had sales of $636 million in its 2004 fiscal year.
Kodak grew into a photography icon on the strength of its traditional film, paper and photofinishing businesses, but the 124-year-old company is now betting its future on filmless technology, from cameras and online photofinishing to minilabs and X-ray systems.
Digital products and services accounted for about $5.5 billion of Kodak's sales in 2004 but will vault as high as $8 billion this year. Chemical-based businesses will account for about $6.6 billion in 2005, down from $8 billion last year, Kodak predicted.

On its 54" format, it will also enables printmakers to produce larger prints and impose more images on a single page further decreasing production time while minimizing consumable waste.
Thanks to d'Vinci unique ink configuration and color rendering architecture, printmakers will also finally be able to realize the benefits of a wider color gamut using orange and green ink without loss of color fidelity in deeper, more saturated colors and finer image quality with the smoothest gradations. d'Vinci's unique ink configuration allows for dotless black and white prints with flexibility to vary the tone with colored inks.
d'Vinci can print on a wide variety of media from fine art matte finish to photographic gloss.
The d'Vinci Hi-Fi JET Fine Art Printing System will be on display at ErgoSoft's booth #4587.
About the name d'Vinci
d'Vinci is a spin on Leonardo da Vinci, the "d" representing the digital age. Leonardo da Vinci was a renaissance man, an artist, architect, engineer, and philosopher. This association between artist and print solution represents a renaissance of the true professional-level fine-art reproduction printing solution.

The Founders, Masters, Partners, and members are all committed to building a community that will take digital image creation and printing to new and greater heights. While skill and professionalism are high on the list of requirements for membership, the one overarching requirement is that all members seek to globally raise the quality of digital imaging, and that they are willing to provide their own experience, knowledge, and skills to others in the spirit of enhancing the industry not just for the sake of the members but for the sake of the industry as a whole.

month, they're getting the benefit of reading the answers to what others
have asked and learning something they might not have thought of!"
Artistry Tips and Tricks is an Acrobat-format newsletter, downloadable from
the Artistry web site at http://www.artistrymag.com. In addition to

So far, most of the questions coming into Artistry Tips and Tricks are about
turning photos into paintings in Painter. However, Sperling notes, questions
about using Painter for anything including fine art and cartooning are
welcome.
The Artistry Tips and Tricks newsletter is earning rave reviews from
subscribers. Here are just a couple of examples:
"Karen Sperling's monthly downloadable Painter ezine, Artistry Tips and

theory. Quite an undertaking for any publisher. Artistry Tips and Tricks
succeeds in both arenas deftly." --Terre Spencer
"Karen's approach to each topic or exercise in the Artistry Tips and Tricks

The Perfection 4990 PHOTO and PRO scanners include valuable and time-saving image-editing tools, such as hardware DIGITAL ICE advanced image restoration technology from Kodak/ASF. This technology automatically repairs physical defects like scratches, tears, and bends as well as dust from a scanned image from both film and prints for a clean, sharp image. It also includes Epson's exclusive Easy Photo Fix technology for color restoration and dust removal to automaticallyrestore faded and damaged color photographs, slides or negatives with the simple touch of a button. The combination of these technologies allows graphic artists and photographers to recover photos and film in almost any condition.

More About DIGITAL ICE Technology
DIGITAL ICE Technology differentiates itself from software-only solutions because it does not soften, blur or otherwise alter any underlying details or composition of the original image. Newly Introduced QSS-33 Series Digital Minilab and CT-X Kiosk Software on
Display
1/16/05 - (1/13/05) Noritsu America Corporation, a leader in
photo imaging technology, will display its latest line of digital photo
imaging equipment during the annual Photo Marketing Association (PMA) 2005
convention. On exhibit for the first time will be the QSS-33 Series of
digital minilabs along with Noritsu's new CT-X Kiosk Software. In addition,
new versions of the company's popular printer-paper processors and film
processors will also be on display. Demonstrations will take place from
February 20-23, 2005 in booth #3050 at the Orange County Convention Center
in Orlando, Florida.
QSS-33 Series of Digital Minilabs
The QSS-33 Series represents the next generation of minilabs,
with models designed to meet a wide variety of photo processing applications
from lower-volume environments to the high-productivity demands of
professional labs. The QSS-33 Series provides output of uncompromising
quality, continuing a tradition of excellence that has yielded the QSS
Series many industry awards, including "Top Product of the Year Award" from
Photo Trade News magazine four years running and "Readers Choice Top Digital
Minilab" from Photo Processing magazine for four years in a row.
The QSS-33 Series offers the same high processing capacity for both film and
digital media, up to 1,050 prints per hour for 4" x 6" images depending on
the model. Image adjustment tools such as Noritsu's Digital Masking
Software, which corrects deep and emulsion-side scratches in film, ensure
the production of high-quality prints.
CT-X Kiosk Software Offers New Features for Retail Photo Consumers Including
Support for Camera Phones
For retailers seeking a network-ready kiosk, Noritsu will display its newly
introduced CT-X Kiosk Software. In tandem with a CT-2 Kiosk, the software
provides a self-service photofinishing solution with enhanced capabilities
to address the needs of today's photo customers, including photo transfers
from camera phones and support for Infrared / Bluetooth wireless devices.
New consumer-friendly features offer support for multiple languages and a
streamlined interface that adds more functionality and reduces transaction
time. Capabilities such as built-in image editing helps users add filters,
adjust color, crop and zoom, and automatic red eye removal. Through an
optional specialty print capability, consumers may also create custom
greeting cards, calendars, photo frames, and more.
New Digital Dry Printers
New to Noritsu's photofinishing line are the dDP-421 and dDP-621 Digital Dry
Printers. Designed as the first high-quality output systems for low-volume
photo imaging orders, the dDP-Digital Dry Printers are minilab systems that
employ dry inkjet technology and accept virtually every digital input media
to produce vivid, high quality prints. The systems are less than half the
size of a standard minilab. Operating on standard electrical current, the
systems have a footprint of a mere 11 square feet, and feature an
environmentally friendly design. The "dry" process means there are no
chemicals used, nor any odors or waste disposal to worry about.
The dDP-621 also has the distinction of being the highest capacity digital
dry printer available on the market today, delivering 385 prints per hour
for 4" x 6" images. The pigment-dye inkjet process yields prints with
quality and longevity that is superior to dye-sublimation prints. New

enhanced color portrayal and natural gradations to produce superior,
long-lasting output; and a glossy paper that offers even more output choices
than before.
